The Drawing Tile is a visual diagramming tool that allows you to combine shapes, text and colors to express ideas. Read on to learn about how to add Tome's drawing tile to your tome and about the different features the drawing tile contains to make it easier to diagram, whiteboard and illustrate directly in Tome.

Adding the Drawing Tile

While editing or creating a tome, click the 'Add drawing' button on the right side panel to bring up the Shapes menu. Click or drag any of the Shapes to both add them to the canvas and create the Drawing Tile.

Creating diagrams (and more!) using the Drawing Tile

Once you've added Shapes to your canvas, you can click and drag them to move them around the canvas. When editing or modifying the Shape tile, a dot grid will appear to help organize your content, as well as pink lines to help with alignment. Combine shapes, arrows and text to create a diagram or communicate visually.

What the shapes in the Drawing Tile can do

You can include text inside any of the 4 shapes (circles, squares, parallelograms, triangles). Click on any Shape and a modifiable text field will appear at the center of the shape.

Click any individual Shape to adjust Fill color, Line color, and Text color via the menu that appears below the selected shape.

Click and drag a Shape to move it around the canvas, and drag the corners to adjust the Shape dimensions. Hold shift while dragging a corner to lock the Shape's aspect ratio.

The Shape tile currently supports the following content: Text, Arrows, Circles, Squares, Parallelograms, Triangles. You can combine any of these shapes to create shapes not available by default, such as a Venn Diagram or Cartesian Grid.

Adjusting the Drawing Tile settings (Zoom, Snap to Grid)

Click on the 3 dots "..." at the top of the tile to bring up Canvas Zoom and 'Snap to grid' options. Use the Zoom function to zoom in or out on the Drawing tile canvas. Toggle 'Snap to grid' to adjust whether or not shapes will 'snap' to the dot grid. You can see the difference near the end of this GIF:

Using AI to create a diagram

When creating a tome using the "Document to presentation..." feature, you can prompt Tome's AI to generate a diagram. This feature currently supports simple flowchart diagrams, but more AI drawing capabilities are coming soon!
