Record narration: Deliver information without walls of text

Cover pages are usually straightforward, but Karin adds a personal touch by recording video of herself introducing her tome and its purpose. Her voiceover also plays a significant role on nearly all of her tome’s sleek pages. 

This allows Karin to highlight key points and add information without overwhelming the user with too much text. And because the recording appears as a bite-sized video at the top corner of the page, users can hear and see Karin with an unobstructed view of the presentation.

And although we highlighted Karin’s use of large numbers, be careful not to go too big. Use large fonts sparingly. Overdoing it can overwhelm and even confuse your reader.

Support your content with a mix of photos

To add authenticity to her tome, Karin includes behind-the-scenes photos of herself with her clients, as well as relevant stock photos. The photos break up the text, help people get to know Karin, and showcase the breadth of what she does for clients—from helping with wardrobe selection to recording videos.

For visual interest, vary the kinds of photos you use in your tome. Mix it up with stock photos, product shots, or branded company images.

: There's a lot of power in starting your own business. I am in no rush to be anything that I'm not. Initially, I was comparing myself to other people and to what they were doing. But I've really learned to trust the fact that PINKIES UP only continues to grow and evolve because I, as a human, am growing and evolving.

What I did with PINKIES UP at the beginning with popups and creating spaces for community was very much my mantra at that particular moment of time in my life. Now I'm trying to build something that is more sustainable and where I can see the most growth. So the motivation is to trust my instinct, trust my judgment, and make my timing my own.
